As the second-largest city in Missouri, St. Louis has numerous restaurants offering an extensive array of quality food to suit every taste and preference. If you're craving pizza, you'll be glad to know that the city is home to some of the best pizzas in the state. Make a point to check out these three famous pizza places when you're in St. Louis.
  1. Union Loafers

Union Loafers is foremost a bakery, but it's also known for making incredibly delicious pizzas. This joint has a unique way of making its pizza crust, combining elements of New York-style pizza and Neapolitan pizza. The result is a crust with a crisp, bubbled perimeter and a soft, chewy body. There are six options on Union Loafers' pizza menu: marinara, Margherita, pepperoni, sausage, spinach-bacon, and mushroom. These 18-inch pies are made with the freshest ingredients, so you can expect to have a truly quality meal. Prices are very reasonable. Situated on Tower Grove Avenue in Botanical Heights, Union Loafers currently doesn't offer dine-in service due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it has a pizza pickup service that runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday. You can place your order starting at 9 a.m. on the bakery's website.
  1. Basso

Basso is an American-Italian restaurant that serves exquisite wood-fired pizza in a dim-lit, cozy environment. Its pizza is like an American version of the Neapolitan pizza, featuring a thin crust, doughy edge, and a golden finish. Additionally, some of its pies have topping combinations you won't find anywhere else. For example, the Mushroom & Truffle pizza comprises duck egg, shiitake, fontina, and roasted garlic, while the Squash & Speck is topped with butternut squash, speck, fontina, and honey. The restaurant offers a discount on selected pizzas during happy hour. Located on Clayton Avenue in Richmond Heights, Basso is open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Happy hour runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weeknights.
  1. Yaquis

Pizza is usually consumed with soda or beer, but it can create a transcendental culinary experience when paired with the right glass of wine. Yaquis is the perfect place to enjoy your favorite pizza and wine pairings. This family-owned restaurant offers a wide selection of specialty pizzas with an elegantly charred crust and top-quality toppings. You can order something familiar like the Margherita or BBQ Chicken or choose something more adventurous like the PestoLozzi, which features prosciutto, pine nuts, and goat cheese. There's also an option to build your own pizza with a variety of fresh ingredients and house-made sauces. Situated on Cherokee Street, Yaquis is temporarily closed to dine-in customers because of COVID-19 restrictions. Nonetheless, it continues to accept takeout orders. There are many restaurants in St. Louis that serve awesome pizza, but these three set themselves apart with their fresh and delicious pies, excellent service, and great value for money.
