Residents of St Louis, MO have plenty of options when it comes to enjoying a delicious sandwich or sub. Check out some of our favorite sandwich places, all within a short drive of each other!
Blues City Deli
You’ll find Blues City Deli at 2438 McNair Avenue, and upon entering, you’ll know immediately that you’re in sandwich heaven. This sandwich shop makes culinary art between two slices of bread, with delicious options like the Pulled Pork and Spicy Coleslaw, Memphis Stax, and their claim to fame, the New Orleans’ Muffuletta. Blues City opened its doors in 2004 with a menu of 12 sandwiches and since then has grown to offer 50 different sandwiches, delicious sides, and salads.
Union Loafers
There’s something about the texture of a flour-dusted, warm ciabatta bun that creates a blissful experience when eaten with fillings like pork tenderloin and rosemary, pickles, grain mustard, and fresh ham. That’s just one of the incredible sandwiches you’ll enjoy at Union Loafers, located at 1629 Tower Grove Avenue. Every bite of their gourmet sandwiches delivers a symphony of flavors that play perfectly on your tastebuds. They also make their own garlic mayo which is absolutely divine.
Mom’s Deli
While your mom probably doesn’t live at 4412 Jamieson Avenue, you can still visit this quaint old-school deli and expect some delicious homemade grub. Their premier sandwich is aptly named the “Mom’s Special”. It’s stacked with sliced turkey, roast beef, and thinly sliced ham. Then it’s topped with fresh crisp lettuce, onion, crunchy pickles, garden tomatoes, and Mun-chee cheese to tie it all together to make a sandwich any mom would be proud of.
Gioia’s Deli
After trying one of the sandwiches at this deli, it came as no surprise that they decided to call the place Gioia, the Italian word for “Joy”. That’s precisely the emotion we felt when we bit into the savory hot salami sandwich, which is made from beef salami. Other fantastic cold cut sandwiches include the Italian Trio, which contains mortadella, Genoa salami, and pepperoncini. You can find Gioia’s Deli at 1934 Macklind Avenue – Buon Appetito!
Vitale’s
Vitale’s is located at 425 N. Sappington Road and is connected to the well-known local Vitale’s Bakery. Their sandwich menu consists of nine delicious options, all made with fresh ingredients and plenty of Italian influence. Our favorite is by far The Pete, named after the owner’s father Pete Vitale. It contains fresh ham, roast beef, soft mozzarella, crispy lettuce, tomato, pickles, and onion. Then to top it off, a homemade Italian dressing that will send you back to the old country.
9th Street Deli at Howard’s
This popular deli on 2732 S. 13th Street serves up an array of delicious sandwiches. The meatball sub with marinara sauce will leave you speechless, as will the St. Louisan. It has mortadella, capocolla, ham, and Provel cheese. The flavors are perfectly balanced and nothing short of magnificent.
