There’s nothing like a cup of joe to start your morning and power your day, and St Louis, MO is home to a wide range of coffee shops and cafes that are perfect for all types of coffee drinkers. Whether you like your caffeine in a sugary latte or delivered through plain black coffee, one of the three places listed below is the spot to go.
1. The Mud House
The Mud House is one of our favorite places in the city to enjoy a cup of coffee either by itself or paired with a deliciously hearty breakfast. Espresso lovers can customize their beverage with non-dairy milk like oat, almond, or soy and add a housemade syrup flavor such as vanilla, chocolate, caramel, lavender, rosemary, and honey. We recommend the Kukicha Green for a caffeinated tea choice and the Royal Treat-mint if you prefer a decaf drink.
Breakfast is served all day at The Mud House, and we’re having a hard time choosing between the Veggie Breakfast Sandwich with goat cheese, cucumber, and apricot chutney and the Egg and Cheese Breakfast Sandwich made with white cheddar and smothered in maple-mustard sauce. Try the Mud Slinger with two sunny side up eggs, or make it vegan with tofu and potatoes. Diners who prefer a sweet breakfast will love the French Toast with lemon mascarpone.
2. City Coffee & Creperie
City Coffee & Creperie is a European-style coffeehouse that specializes in pastry items, delectable breakfasts, and handcrafted espresso drinks to wash it all down. Adventurous diners can try the Coffee of the Day, while latte lovers will enjoy either the Tuxedo Latte or the Red Velvet Latte. Enjoy a smoothie in flavors such as blueberry, banana, raspberry, strawberry, and mango, or go with a Mexican Hot Chocolate paired with a homemade scone fresh from the kitchen.
There are over a dozen savory crepes available, but we particularly enjoy the Brittany with honey ham and Havarti cheese, the Fiesta with grilled chicken and green chiles, and the French Connection filled with eggs, cheese, hash browns, and chili. If you prefer sweet crepes, we love the Monte Carlo with coconut and pecans, the Raspberry Beret with white chocolate, the Mon Cheri Amor with cherry and sweet cream cheese, and the Mascarpone & Lemon Blueberry.
3. Benton Park
Benton Park serves savory breakfasts and sweet coffee drinks inside a charming downtown location for the perfect morning treat. Hot coffee fans should go with a caramel, vanilla, or raspberry mocha, while iced coffee lovers can add syrup in flavors such as pumpkin, toffee nut, or frosted mint to their iced latte. For a more substantial caffeinated beverage, we recommend the Tahitian Vanilla Frappe or the Wild Tribe Mocha Frappe from the smoothie menu.
Egg meals can be prepared as an omelet or a burrito, and our favorites include the South of the Border with chorizo and jalapenos, the Farmer’s with green peppers and dill sour cream, and the Off the Coast filled with cilantro, shrimp, and crab. Try one of the Breakfast Pizzas with toppings such as bacon, turkey sausage, avocado, mushroom, and cheese, or go for the French Toast that comes with a side of maple walnut cream cheese.
A stop by any of these restaurants is guaranteed to brighten your morning and elevate the rest of your day. After you’ve savored your coffee and finished your meal, stop by Bommarito Chevrolet South County to shop from a wide variety of new and used vehicles!
