How to Jump Start Your Chevy in 8 Simple Steps

Image via Shutterstock Jump-starting any vehicle is a straightforward process if done correctly. Here are the steps you need to take to jump start a car, courtesy of your Chevy dealer. more 1. Prepare the Vehicles Park the working vehicle close to your Chevy so that the jumper cables can reach both batteries. Make sure that the cars aren't close enough to touch, as that could potentially cause a short circuit. Both cars should be turned off, with the keys out of the ignition, and the parking brakes engaged. 2. Identify the Battery Terminals Open the hoods of both vehicles and locate their batteries. You need to identify the positive and negative terminals on both batteries. The positive terminal is typically marked with a red cover or a "+" sign, while the negative is marked with a "-" sign. 3. Connect the Jumper Cables Be careful not to let the clips at the end of the cables touch anything, even each other, to avoid sparking. First, attach one of the red clips to the positive terminal of your Chevy's dead battery. Then attach the other red clip to the positive terminal of the working vehicle's battery. Attach one of the black clips to the negative terminal of the working vehicle's battery, then attach the last black clip to an unpainted metal surface on your Chevy, away from the battery. A metal strut that holds the hood open is a good option to safely complete the circuit. 4. Start the Working Vehicle Turn on the working vehicle and let it idle for a few minutes. This will charge your Chevy's dead battery. 5. Try to Start Your Chevy After a few minutes, try starting your car. If it doesn't start, check that the cables are connected properly and wait a few more minutes before you try again. 6. Disconnect the Jumper Cables Once your Chevy starts, disconnect the jumper cables in reverse of the order you attached them. Remove the black clip from your Chevy, then the black clip from the other car, followed by the red clip from the working vehicle, and finally the red clip from your Chevy. 7. Keep the Engine Running Keeping your car running for at least 15 minutes allows the alternator to charge the battery. If you have time, take your car out and drive for 20 to 30 minutes. 8. Visit Your Chevy Dealer If you need to jump start your battery frequently, or if it won't start your car without an obvious reason, it may be time to visit the dealership. Batteries weaken over time, and if you have to jump start your car over and over, it might be time to replace yours. Follow these steps carefully and your car should be running again in no time. Call Bommarito Chevrolet South County in St. Louis, MO, to get your battery checked.

Honoring a Visionary: Frank Bommarito's Enduring Impact

January marks a significant month for our team as we remember Frank Bommarito, the esteemed founder of the Bommarito Automotive Group, on the first anniversary of his passing. Frank's life was a tapestry of hard work, innovative thinking, and an unwavering dedication to his community. This commemoration is a tribute to a man whose contributions have profoundly shaped the automotive industry in Missouri and set a standard for excellence and integrity. more The Early Years: Building a Foundation Frank Bommarito's automotive career began with humble roots at McMahon Pontiac, where he started by undercoating cars and working as a car porter and jockey. His dedication and hard work, coupled with his time in the US Navy where he received a Golden Glove award for boxing, laid the groundwork for his future success. Upon returning from the Navy, Frank continued his career at McMahon Pontiac in 1954, eventually climbing the ladder to sales and then on to management at Vincel Pontiac. His dream of being a new car dealer materialized in 1971 when General Motors handed him an Oldsmobile dealer in Ellisville, MO, marking the start of what would become the Bommarito Automotive Group. Under Frank's stewardship, Bommarito Oldsmobile not only became Missouri's largest Oldsmobile dealership but also maintained its status among the nation's top ten. But his initial success was not confined to a single brand; it was merely a springboard for expansion--each new venture was marked by Frank's signature blend of tenacity and foresight, as seen in the enduring success of Bommarito Mazda in Ellisville as the largest Missouri Mazda dealer for over 17 of their 43 years of operation. His vision encompassed the St. Louis Metro area, elevating the North County Nissan in Hazelwood to the status of Missouri's largest volume Nissan dealership. Extending further into West County, the establishment of Bommarito Buick GMC and Bommarito INFINITI in Ellisville continue to reinforce the Bommarito name as a significant cornerstone in Missouri's automotive history. Sustaining Impact and Growth The transition of leadership to his son, John Bommarito, in 1998, was a seamless passing of the torch. This period saw significant expansions and acquisitions, including the introduction of new brands like Pontiac, Suzuki, Buick, Honda, and Volkswagen, each reflecting the group's commitment to diversity and customer choice. The South County region soon became a new home for the Bommarito Chevrolet addition in 2008 as General Motors began shifting its focus away from Pontiac, welcoming a new auto brand powerhouse to the Bommarito family business, to accompany the already-successful Bommarito Mazda South (formerly Pontiac-Mazda). Even after handing over the reins of the Bommarito Automotive Group to John, Frank's influence remained a guiding force. The group's expansion under John's leadership, bringing the group total to 20 franchises and locations in every St. Louis neighborhood, continued to reflect Frank's vision and principles. Frank's ethos, centered around hard work and community service, was instilled in the group's over 1000 team members, ensuring that his legacy of being Missouri's #1 Auto Dealer and a top national dealership endured. The Bommarito Auto Group's growth was not about adding brands for the sake of notoriety; it was about creating a legacy that car buyers could rely on for life—Frank’s vision of having "a vehicle in our portfolio for every type of buyer" bloomed into a lifetime family mission that has become revered by the community today, with John's continued dedication in the business reflecting Frank's tenacity in which so many have been inspired by. A Fulfilling Life Beyond the Family Business Frank's life was rich and multifaceted, extending well beyond his professional achievements. He was known for his heartfelt generosity and his belief that giving someone a job was the best form of help a person could offer. He’s remembered as an accomplished Gin Rummy and Poker player, and he deeply cherished his weekly gatherings with friends, whom he affectionately nicknamed his "Cronies." He also had a well-known passion for writing which led him to author a weekly column in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for over a decade, sharing his business insights and personal experiences as a well-versed entrepreneur during the recession of 2008. In 2015, he was honored as the Time Dealer of the Year for his community contributions, and his alma mater, St. Mary’s High School, was named in his honor. Frank's legacy lives on through his family, including his beloved wife Lisa, his children, stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his beloved (and cleverly named) dogs, Sinatra, Deano, Bishop, and Pavé. As we commemorate the first anniversary of Frank Bommarito's passing, we reflect on a legacy that has truly transcended the automotive industry. His journey from a car washer to a revered industry leader is a narrative of resilience, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to the community he so deeply cared for. Frank Bommarito's story is not just about cars--it's about the indelible mark he left on the St. Louis Metro area and the countless lives he touched along the way. His legacy, carried forward by both his family and the Bommarito Auto Group, continues to drive forward, fueled by the same principles that Frank held dear. In remembering Frank, we celebrate a life that was truly driven by passion, vision, and an enduring commitment to excellence.

Does Chevy Make a Hybrid Vehicle?

Image via Chevrolet Chevrolet is a proud name in American automotive innovation, and it has journeyed through various phases of vehicle development, including hybrid technology. Although Chevy's hybrid vehicles were once a prominent part of their offerings, the brand has gradually phased out most of the hybrid options as it moves to fully electric vehicles. Despite this, hybrids, a transitional technology between traditional gasoline cars and EVs, are still often available used at your Chevy dealer. more Are There Hybrid Options at Your Chevy Dealer? Chevrolet's approach to hybrids has covered various segments, such as sedans, pickup trucks, and SUVs. Some notable models in the used market include the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, a sedan with a 1.8L Inline-4 hybrid engine delivering 122 horsepower. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Hybrid and Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, both equipped with a robust 6.0L V8 Hybrid engine producing 332 horsepower, cater to those seeking power and utility in a hybrid format. The Chevrolet Volt stands out with its 149 hp 1.5L Inline-4 Plug-in Hybrid engine. These vehicles, though no longer in production, each offer a unique blend of performance, efficiency, and comfort in vehicles that are both environmentally friendly and enjoyable to drive. The Malibu hybrid, for example, is known for its smooth acceleration and impressive fuel efficiency, making it an excellent choice for eco-conscious consumers seeking a comfortable and efficient sedan. The Silverado 1500 Hybrid and Tahoe Hybrid, on the other hand, blend the utility and ruggedness expected from a pickup truck and SUV with the added benefit of better fuel economy. What to Consider When Buying The brand's hybrids are known for their brisk and smooth acceleration, impressive miles-per-gallon figures, spacious and well-equipped cabins, advanced infotainment systems, and strong safety and reliability ratings. These vehicles are designed to be modern and attractive, both inside and out. Hybrids are also reliable used vehicles. However, Chevrolet's focus has been increasingly shifting towards fully electric vehicles. This move aligns with the broader automotive industry's trend towards electrification, driven by growing environmental concerns and advancements in EV technology. Chevrolet's success in the EV market underscores the company's capability to adapt and lead in the realm of sustainable transportation, and for some people, the right choice could be going fully electric. Making the Choice The transition to EVs represents a significant step forward in reducing your carbon footprint and embracing a more sustainable lifestyle. While hybrids serve as an excellent bridge for those transitioning from traditional gasoline cars, EVs offer an even more environmentally friendly option by eliminating tailpipe emissions entirely. Still, hybrids could be the right choice for you, especially if you live where charging stations haven't been widely installed yet. Chevrolet's hybrid vehicle lineup has diminished in favor of a stronger emphasis on electric vehicles, but the legacy of Chevy Hybrids continues to influence the brand's current and future endeavors in sustainable transportation. Whatever you're looking for, come see us at Bommarito Chevrolet South County to find it.

Should You Buy or Lease Your Next Chevy?

Image via Shutterstock Are you ready to get behind the wheel of a new car? If you aren't sure whether you'll buy or lease when you get to the Chevy dealer, it's smart to research your options. more Pros of Buying a Chevy When you buy a car, you own it. You can customize it, drive it as much as you want, and keep it as long as you like. With each payment you make, you'll build equity in your car. You can use this equity as a trade-in or down payment when you're ready to buy a new car. Pros of Leasing a Chevy Lease payments are generally lower than loan payments since you are only paying for depreciation that takes place during the term of your lease. Your leased Chevy will also usually still be under warranty throughout the lease period. That means you don't have to shell out for unexpected repairs. Leasing allows you to drive a new Chevy model every few years. Once your lease is finished, you don't have to try and sell your car. Just return it to the dealership! Cons of Buying a Chevy Buying a car typically means higher monthly payments compared to leasing. You are financing the entire purchase price of the vehicle. Your Chevy will also depreciate over time, reducing its resale value. If you sell it at the wrong time, you could still owe money on your loan. As the owner, you have to pay for any repairs or maintenance your car needs once it's out of warranty. While it may not cost much at first, the older your car gets, the more expensive it can be to maintain. Cons of Leasing a Chevy Leasing a Chevy does not mean you own the car. Instead, it remains the property of the dealership. Similar to renting something, you make payments that allow you to use your Chevy for the term of the lease. Once the lease ends, you don't have anything to show for your payments. Instead, you have to return your car to the dealer. A lease also limits how far you are allowed to drive each year and how much wear and tear is considered acceptable. Ignore these limits, and you could owe a lot in fees when you return your car. Should You Buy or Lease at the Chevy Dealer? If you prefer full ownership, drive a lot, and want the flexibility to modify your vehicle, buying is more likely to be for you. If you'd rather drive the latest models, prefer lower monthly payments, and want to avoid the hassle of resale, a lease could be your best option. Ultimately, the choice is up to you. Swing by Bommarito Chevrolet South County in St. Louis, MO, and let us help you find the perfect car for your needs.

In the bed outside, the cargo LED lighting feature and multiple cargo tie-downs make it easy to secure cargo, and you can protect the bed with the Chevytec spray-on bedliner while using the convenient Multi-Flex Tailgate to easily move things in and out as you're working. Top-Notch Technology While you're viewing important information on your windshield using the Head-Up Display, you can control calls and other functions of the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Premium system using your voice instead of its 13.4-inch diagonal touchscreen. The Wi-Fi hotspot can be connected to from both inside and outside the vehicle, and the Universal Home Remote can be used with home security systems, garage doors, and in-home electronic devices. Cutting-edge technology is also integrated into the many driver-assist systems, including Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Lane Departure Warning, with the first system monitoring your blind spot zones and the second helping you stay inside your lane. How Often Should Your Chevy Get an Oil Change?

Proper maintenance of your Chevrolet includes regular oil changes. How often you should head to the Chevy dealership for one can vary based on model, year, and how you use your vehicle. more Changing Your Oil on Schedule Newer Chevrolet models, equipped with advanced engines and synthetic oil, can usually go between 5,000 and 7,500 miles before needing fresh oil. No matter how little you drive, though, you should change your oil once a year. Why Oil Matters The oil in your car lubricates the moving parts of your engine, reducing friction and your chances of premature engine wear. As oil ages, it breaks down and becomes less effective at protecting your engine. Old oil accumulates dirt, debris, and particles that can corrode the parts of your engine. Changing your oil regularly helps clean out these contaminants. Neglecting your oil can lead to poor engine performance, reduced fuel efficiency, and ultimately, engine failure. Signs You Need an Oil Change at the Chevy Dealership You've Exceeded the Mileage Limits If you've surpassed the number of miles recommended between changes, it's time to head to the dealership for fresh oil. Dark, Dirty Oil You should check your oil at least once a month. If you pull out the dipstick and your oil looks black and gritty, it's time for a change. Increases in Engine Noise As your oil deteriorates, it provides less lubrication. This can result in more noise coming from your engine. If you hear knocking sounds, that indicates your oil is no longer protecting your engine as it should, and damage is taking place. Oil or Check Engine Light If your oil light comes on, it's definitely time for a change. If the check engine light comes on, old oil should top your list of suspects, but a professional diagnostic test is the only way to be sure what triggered it. Exhaust Smoke Normal exhaust looks like translucent vapor: you should not see smoke coming out of a healthy car. Smoke in your exhaust may be a sign that there is an oil leak. If oil leaks into the engine, it can burn off. Oil Smell Inside Your Car If you smell oil inside your car, that's another sign you may have an oil leak. Leaks can result in oil levels that are too low to protect your car, so you should have it checked out right away. Poor Performance If your Chevy is running roughly, or you've noticed a decrease in fuel efficiency, old or dirty oil could be the cause. Be attentive to the condition of your oil. For best results, change your oil on schedule or when you notice signs of trouble, whichever comes first. Call Bommarito Chevrolet South County to schedule your next oil service.

The Following Distance Indicator ensures you're far enough away from other traffic that you'll have time to react to the unexpected, and the Lane Keep Assist includes a Departure Warning if your SUV crosses over the painted road lines unintentionally. Available Safety Add-Ons The Lane Change Alert safety system comes with a supplemental Side Blind Zone Alert. This system is a great way to ensure you're only making lane-changing maneuvers while it's safe to do so. Once you put your blinker on, the system will alert you of vehicles in the corresponding side's blind spot. The available Rear Cross-Traffic Alert program is helpful for situations when you need to reverse onto busy roads.
